Looking after animals can be a messy business. So one charity has decided to clean up its act – by fitting artificial turf in the dog pens. The artificial grass – usually associated with sports – has been put in at Leicester Animal Aid. It means that the rescued animals living at the Huncote centre’s nine pens will be cleaner and comfier:
The revamp will also save staff time in their efforts to give the dogs the bet possible environment as the fake grass – known as Sowgreen – is so low maintenance. The centre, which is in Forest Road, was able to pay for the refurbishment after a benefactor left it money to fund the improvements. Leicester firm Technical Surfaces then gave the centre a discount on the product, as it is a charity.
Keely Short, Leicester Animal Aid general manager, said “The improvements have been fantastic, not only from an aesthetics point of view but in terms of practicality and hygiene. This will cut the cost of the site’s upkeep and prospective owners will see the dogs in a nicer environment..”
